The register contains details of all applications which have been made and not determined by the council before 31 December 2005.
The Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 introduced a new section (section 53B) into the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 requiring the council to keep a register of applications under Section 53(5) of the Wildlife and Countryside Act for a definitive map modification order (DMMO). These applications are commonly referred to as public rights of way 'claims'.
The register aims to increase knowledge among landowners, users of rights of way, and the general public about applications which could result or have resulted in changes to the Definitive Map and Statement of Public Rights of Way. It also aims to help avoid the duplication of work where someone has already made an application for a DMMO in respect of a particular matter.
