John Milton (9 December 1608 - 8 November 1674)

John Milton was an English poet, a man of letters and a civil servant during the time of Oliver Cromwell. He is known for his epic poem Paradise Lost and the famous line from L’Allegro: ‘Com, and trip it as ye go, on the light fantastic toe’. He lived in Horton after gaining a degree, and continued wide ranging study and poetry writing there before he travelling to France and Italy.
