Retail health checks and surveys

Retail Health Checks are produced to monitor the performance, or health, of the main retail centres within the Royal Borough, namely Windsor, Maidenhead, Ascot and Sunningdale.

The report is based on retail planning guidance. The topics and indicators covered are:

  • Diversity of main town centre use;
  • Retail outlet representation and intentions to change representation;
  • Shopping rents;
  • Proportion of vacant street level property;
  • Commercial yields;
  • Pedestrian flows (footfall);
  • Accessibility;
  • Customer and residents' views;
  • Perception of safety and occurrence of crime;
  • State of town centre environmental quality.

The most recent report is available to view and download below.

A retail study has been commissioned and will include an update of relevant health check indicators for the borough's town centres.

Retail surveys

Retail surveys are conducted every six months to monitor changes in shop types. This ensures Royal Borough town centres continue to deliver a suitable diversity of shops and businesses for borough residents. These retail surveys are organised by street name, providing information on the occupant and business type. Vacant outlets are also recorded. Below are the most recent retail surveys for Maidenhead and Windsor town centres.

Note: Shops are recorded by their official use class.
