Work starts on temporary replacement for Maidenhead’s Broadway carpark

Work began yesterday to open a new temporary public carpark in Maidenhead, as part of our plans for the future of the town centre.

The new car park, located at the former site of Broadway Carpark behind the Nicholson’s Shopping Centre, will be run by Green Parking and is set to open before Christmas to help boost local businesses at such a critical time for them.

Following the demolition of the previous multi-storey carpark for safety reasons during 2023, the new surface level car park will improve access to the shopping centre and other retailers for an initial period of one year.

The Council Leader, Cllr Simon Werner, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to provide the temporary carpark – which will provide a much needed boost to our local retailers, and support the many residents who have told us that they want to see parking spaces provided closer to the Shopping Centre.

“We have been working really hard on this agreement for a good few months now and while the council will not be responsible for the carpark, the partnership agreement with Green Parking will allow us to support local people and businesses to use our town centre.”

Work to prepare the site is being carried out by Green Parking and comes as we announce this year’s Christmas lights switch-on event that will take place in Maidenhead on Saturday 23 November.
