Council works on the Highway this week

The following pages list work that is being carried out by the council or its contractors on or around roads in the Borough.

Highway surface treatment works: Royal Windsor Way

VolkerHighways, on behalf of the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead, will be carrying out highway surface treatment works on Royal Windsor Way, Windsor. This work will provide an enhanced surface on both the northbound and southbound carriageways, following on from initial preparation work undertaken in 2023, extending the life of the road surface and reducing future maintenance requirements.

During these closures, the council will take the opportunity to carry out other essential works, including line painting, street lighting maintenance, barrier repairs and routine drainage maintenance.

The work will be over the full extent of northbound and southbound Royal Windsor Way between B3024 Dedworth Road Roundabout and the roundabout with the M4 motorway. Both roundabouts will remain open.

In order to facilitate the works, overnight road closures will be in place during the below work periods, from 9pm to 5am. This is for health and safety, and to ensure the work is completed as efficiently as possible.

Signed diversions will be in place during all works phases.

Work will take place over four nights between Monday 20 May and Thursday 23 May 2024 with phasing’s as below:

  • Monday 20 May – overnight closure of northbound carriageway and associated slip roads to undertake preparatory works/patching.
  • Tuesday 21 May – overnight closure of southbound carriageway and associated slip roads to undertake preparatory works/patching.
  • Wednesday 22 May - overnight closure of southbound carriageway and associated slip roads to undertake carriageway preservation treatment, lining.
  • Thursday 23 May – overnight closure of northbound carriageway and associated slip roads to undertake carriageway preservation treatment, lining.

During the work to the northbound section of the road, the southbound carriageway will remain open, and vice versa.

The diversion route will be as follows: A308 Maidenhead Road, A308 Windsor Road, A308 Braywick Road, A308 Kings St, A308 Frascati Way, A4 Bad Godesberg Way, A4 Saint Cloud Way, A4 Bath Road, A355 Tuns Lane.

We will maintain access for emergency vehicles and for residents and businesses located within the work area as far as possible, but there may be periods where you could encounter delays. Please be patient with the contractor while they control traffic to facilitate a safe passage through the works.

The project is weather dependent and therefore, the programmed start and completion dates may change. Any changes will be notified on the Advance Warning signs which will be placed on site.

This investment is an essential part of the council’s maintenance programme and is necessary to make sure the roads are kept in a safe and useable condition. Your patience and co-operation would be much appreciated to ensure that the contractor is able to complete the works as quickly as possible and with minimum inconvenience.
