Apply for a temporary resident parking permit

You can apply for a temporary resident parking permit if you meet the criteria.

We can provide a temporary permit when your vehicle is off the road due to mechanical failure, damage or scheduled maintenance, and you are using a hire vehicle.

These are valid for a maximum of 28 days (extension will only be considered on receipt from the repairer with a reason for the delay).

We do not provide this type of permit if your current permit has expired or you are just moving into a new property.

Supporting evidence required

The proofs used must contain the registration number of the vehicle along with your name and address.

We will need at least one of the following types of evidence to provide the permit:

  • Copy of the hire vehicle document - this should state the reason for the hire.
  • Letter / Job schedule from the garage stating the reason why the vehicle is off-road.
  • Letter / e-mail from the insurance company stating that works are to take place.

Process

We aim to process these requests within two working days of the request.

The permit will be virtual through the MiPermit system. You will receive an e-mail confirmation when your application is approved.

Parking should not commence until a valid permit is approved by the Council.. You are expected to find alternative parking or use Visitor Vouchers until your permit is validated.

Please note that failure to provide the correct documentation will mean that the permit cannot be issued.
