Interim Sustainability Position Statement

Information about the interim sustainability position statement.

The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead declared a climate emergency in June 2020 setting out the council’s intention to implement national policy and ensure net-zero carbon emissions are achieved by no later than 2050.

In December 2020 the Environment and Climate Strategy was adopted which sets out how the borough will address the climate emergency across four key themes (Circular Economy, Energy, Natural Environment and Transport). The strategy sets a trajectory which seeks to a 50% reduction in emissions by 2025.

The Sustainability Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) was adopted on Wednesday 24 July 2024. The SPD has an implementation date of Sunday 1 September 2024. It will replace the Sustainable Design and Construction SPD (2009) and will supersede the Council’s Interim Sustainability Position Statement. This page will be removed from the website once the SPD has been implemented.
