An update following reports of a demonstration planned in Windsor

The council is aware of a protest demonstration by Extinction Rebellion from Friday 30 August to Sunday 1 September in Windsor Town Centre.

While the council recognises Extinction Rebellion’s central message on addressing the climate emergency, and respects the right for peaceful protest, we have a responsibility to ensure public safety.

Having previously made it clear that Extinction Rebellion do not have permission for a festival with overnight camping in Home Park, we are aware that they have begun to arrive in the area.

We are working closely with Thames Valley Police, the Crown Estate and other key partners, to minimise any disruption to those that live and work in, or plan to visit, Windsor and expect an enhanced police presence in the town centre over the weekend.

We will be continuing to monitor the situation and work with partners. If this results in any changes to services, or there is additional information to share, this page will be updated.
