With demand for social housing in the borough high, the aim of the proposals are to make sure available homes go to those in the greatest housing need.
The consultation, which runs until 16 January 2025, outlines proposed changes to eligibility for social housing, the support for care leavers and improved definitions of the bands to make sure they are clear, fair and appropriate.
Cllr Catherine del Campo, Cabinet Member for Adult Services, Health and Housing Services said: “Like many councils, we have a limited supply of properties available in the borough, so it is really important that how we allocate homes makes the best possible use of what we have to support people to live healthy and independent lives.
‘’I hope as many people as possible will engage with the consultation, so we have a housing allocations scheme that is fit for purpose and best serves the needs of everyone in the community.”
The council’s current Housing Allocations Scheme came into effect in 2018 and is being updated in response to national legislation and local needs.
