The donation of £6,082 was presented to Fiona Devine MBE, Founder of the Alexander Devine Children's Hospice Service on Friday 18 October by The Mayor and will help the charity to provide specialist care and support to children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions and their families across Berkshire and surrounding counties.

The Mayor, Councillor Simon Bond, said “I’m proud to have made this donation to Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service, who do fantastic work providing care to local people. It was an honour to present this donation directly to Fiona Devine, who founded the service and whose continuing work is inspiring.”

“I’d also like to thank everyone who donated and attended the Charity Dinner held in September. Without you, this donation wouldn’t have been possible.”

Fiona Devine MBE, Founder of the Alexander Devine Children's Hospice Service, said “We’re delighted to have been chosen as the Mayor’s charity. The dinner was an amazing success and are very pleased to have raised £6000.”

The Mayor held his Charity Dinner in September at the Guildhall and the guest speaker was Mr Harry Hunter, the oldest Briton to run the Marathon Des Sables. Earlier this year, Mr Hunter ran the Sahara desert ultra marathon (160 miles in seven days) in aid of Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice.

The next charity dinner will be held on Friday 6 December, in aid of The Baby Bank. Further details can be found online
