Work will take place on the mini roundabout connecting the road to the A308, to relocate a gas main and temporary traffic lights will be in place during the first and last two weeks of construction, to support traffic flow. Partners have worked together to align their necessary work, reducing the time that will be needed to complete the overall project in the new year.
A signed diversion route will be in place advising motorists who normally join the A308 from Holyport road to continue their journeys using A330 Ascot Road instead. The council is not permitted to place temporary traffic lights on this diversion route. Other entrance points will remain open for those needing access to Holyport Road.
The project, made possible through a combination of Local Enterprise Partnership and Community Infrastructure Levy funding, is part of the council’s ambition to improve safety and increase capacity and connectivity along the A308. Further work to upgrade the roundabout is set to take place from January and will include better access for cyclists and pedestrians, supporting the council’s commitment to delivering a cleaner, greener and safer borough.
When complete this will result in a safer, more efficient junction enabling all traffic movement.
Cllr Geoff Hill, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport and Customer Service Centre said: “This work is the first phase of a project to make this key route safer and more efficient and follows resident feedback.
“We have worked closely with partners to coordinate what needs to be done, to minimise disruption to road users, as part of the delivery of the upgraded roundabout next year.”
