Volunteering in the library

Library volunteers are beacons in the communities our local libraries are located within. Volunteers are vital in helping libraries extend the activities on offer.

Home Library Service volunteer

Become a Home Library Service volunteer - join the team to help take books out to residents who cannot access a static library - owing to disability/illness, or because they are full time carers, or do not have personal means of transportation.

As a volunteer you will:

  • Get matched with at least one housebound reader - as local as possible.
  • Be able to volunteer flexibly so that it fits with other commitments.
  • Enjoy chats and laughter with your reader about books, stories, life and what’s on.
  • Realise the satisfaction of making a difference by helping to improve someone’s quality of life.
