Scrap metal licences

You must hold either a site or mobile collector’s licence.

This should be issued by the council if you collect or buy scrap metal.
Scrap metal includes:

  • any old, waste or discarded metal or metallic material,
  • any product, article or assembly which is made from or contains metal and is broken, worn out or regarded by its last holder as having reached the end of its useful life.

The fee is £876.00 for a three year scrap metal dealer site licence and a collectors licence to operate within the Royal Borough is £557.00.
