Voting at a polling station

The traditional way to vote in the United Kingdom is to attend your local polling station and vote in person. A poll card will be sent to all registered electors who are eligible to vote in the election being held. If you have applied to vote by post then you will not be able to vote at the polling station and will receive a postal poll card.

Find your designated polling station by entering your address on our neighbourhood view page.

If you are not registered as an elector, or are not eligible for that election, you will not be able to vote.

Please read your poll card carefully. Your poll card will provide you with the name and address of your designated polling station and a map. Following the introduction of Voter ID from May 2023 elections it will also give details of the types of photographic ID you can use to vote in a polling station.  Without showing photographic ID you will not be able to vote in a polling station.

You do not need to bring your poll card with you to vote. However, if you bring it with you it will reduce the amount of time you have to spend in the polling station.
