Independent Remuneration Panel

Local authorities are required by The Local Authorities (Members' Allowances) (England) Regulations 2003 to establish and maintain an Independent Remuneration Panel to make recommendations on the level of basic and special responsibility allowances and associated matters that are paid to Councillors.

What is the Panel?

The Royal Borough's Independent Remuneration Panel is made up of three persons who are appointed by the Council at the meeting of Annual Council each May, for a period of up to 4 years. The Panel Members are members of the public who live or work within the borough and are not Councillors or Council officers. The Panel usually meets once a year to review the Councillors' Allowances Scheme and makes recommendations to the Council, which must be considered at a meeting of Council before it establishes a new scheme.

How to get involved

The Independent Remuneration Panel's membership is regularly refreshed and the Council is keen to encourage new people to get involved as a member of the Panel who can bring expertise and experience from their lives to help contribute towards the recommendations made by the Panel.

If you are interested in becoming an independent Panel Member, then please view the Panel Member Overview, which outlines the desired qualities for applicants. For further information or an application form please contact Democratic Services on democratic.services@rbwm.gov.uk where this can be supplied or questions can be answered.

The closing date for current applications is Friday 14 March 2025.
