Registering your baby

Information about what you need to do to register the birth of your baby.

Congratulations on the birth of your baby!

A birth can only be registered in the district where the baby was born. If your baby was born at home in the Royal Borough, please send an email to registrar@rbwm.gov.uk, including the parents full names, a daytime telephone number, and the date and address at which the baby was born. We will then contact you to make an appointment to register the baby.

It is a legal requirement to register the birth within 42 days. This is done by a personal visit to a register office in the district where the birth occurred.

After giving the Registrar all the necessary information, you will be asked to check the record carefully and sign it.

You will need to purchase a birth certificate, which will cost £12.50 per copy.

If your baby was not born at home in the Royal Borough, then please contact the Registrars in the area where the baby was born to make an appointment to Register the birth.

For example: if your baby was born in Wexham Park, Slough, please contact the Slough Registration Service, or for a birth at the Royal Berks Hospital, Reading, please contact the Reading Registration Service.
